Violations
17th April by John
If you feel that a member of redbrick, or redbrick as an entity, has violated the regulations with which we must comply we encourage you to report this.
The following are our suggested procedures and are designed to resolve problems as quickly and efficiently as possible for the benefit of all parties concerned:
- The vast majority of content on redbrick, is that of our members, in such cases it is the members themselves who are responsible for that content, however we recognise that it is useful to have a central and coordinated procedure for dealing with alleged violations of regulations, it is also necessary to deal with the rare situation of uncooperative members.
- Your initial contact should be with us directly, we have no control, nor take responsibility for the handling of complaints lodged with third parties, if you report a problem directly to us, by using the abuse@redbrick.dcu.ie address we will endeavour to resolve the problem as quickly as possible. If your complaint is regarding a member your complaint should also be forwarded to that member, simply as a matter of courtesy and because it is that member who has primary responsibility.
- If however you are unhappy with our response, you may of course complain to the Dublin City University Computer Services Department or with HEAnet. Both of whom are our service providers.
- If the complaint is regarding an alleged copyright violation or other materials we are prohibited to distribute we will as a matter of courtesy only, and with no admission of guilt or liability immediately ensure that that content is taken down, it will not be replaced until such time that the person responsible for it can show that the content is not contra-regulato . This does not mean, however, that we will not reject obvious frivolous complaints.
- If the content is alleged to be libellous or otherwise malicious, we will consult the member concerned before determining a course of action. We do not act as "editors" , a member is responsible for the content on their site, we will only remove such content if there is a clear case for such action.
- Redbrick is run by members for members, as such we will act in co-operation with members to resolve problems, members will be consulted on all issues regarding their content/actions. The vast majority of problems are solved to mutual satisfaction with the voluntary co-operation of our members.
- In the unlikely circumstance of a member being uncontactable within a reasonable period of time, and the complainant seeking a resolution as a matter of urgency, we will ocasionally take action without consulting a member. So long as we believe that action to be in the best interests of all concerned.
Please bear in mind, we are not responsible for the content on our members' sites, only the members concerned are, as a matter of convenience and courtesy we act on complaints as we believe it is beneficial to all concerned.
We are run by full-time students acting on a voluntary and part-time basis. This means that we simply cannot undertake to ensure that all the content we have is complying with regulations. Although we do instigate regular searches this, however, can not guarantee the absence of violations. We endeavour to act as quickly as possible upon complaints.
Examples of violations:
- Pornography on a web site
- Copyrighted material on a web site
- Slanderous content on a web site
- Misuses of resources for "hacking"
Examples of Non-Violations:
- Using redbrick disk space to store mp3 recordings of legally purchased music, for their own explicit use and non-distribution.
