And the Sky may Fall – Session #2

After the momentous start involving the Pack coming within inches of being flailed alive by a trio of angry Pure Tribers, the Pack settle in to a little negotiation, a little territory staking, and a little reputation building. With Malcolm (Mark’s Character) called back to the Hoki Territory for a time, the remaining three of Eric (Peter’s Character), Marek (Liam’s Character), and Wyatt (Fiki’s character) got down to securing their place in the city of Vancouver.

The question of what to do with the child they had just rescued weighed heavy on the minds of the pack. What was perhaps more concerning to some of the pack was Eric’s declaration of Pack Alpha. While Marek and Wyatt were both put out, each in their own ways, they accepted this situation, for the time being. It was decided that pack positioning, an important aspect to any pack, could be decided later, when the full pack were present to rip the shit out of one another.

Debating with Hector Alimento, Eric got most of what was asked, though it was clear that Hector was playing with the best cards, as he had most of the deck! It does appear (to the PCs, heh!) that Hector had announced that the Emergent child had been secured, and while he was open and willing with the praise on the Pack, it was always going to be the case that he and his pack were going to take custody of the child’s up-bringing.

One thing of interest did come up in the discussions, which made other occurances a little more pointed. The Pack’s chosen territory had been empty for some time, despite the fact that it is boarder on three sides by three different packs (Made, Paperhouse Insurgency, and Hector’s Seraphim’s Hand). The reason for the lack of development into this area by the others is the lack of ‘important natural resources’. In order words, there are no unchecked Loci in the area. Loci are incredibly important sources of power for the Pack, and represent much in the way of prestige and strength a Pack can muster at any particular time. After pointing this out, Hector offers the Pack a solution, beyond allowing them access to a lesser Loci inside a part of his territory that borders the Pack’s new stake. He offers the Pack a list.

This list contains seven objects each, according to Hector, is a powerful unchecked artifact. While it is rare, the combination of such artifacts have been known to create a Loci, without the normal process of the expenditure of hundreds of points of Essence.

  • The Chalice of Urandi – an Ancient German piece, in the possession of an ageing socialite by the name of Jacob Keefer.
  • Tyrian Lilus – an Orchid of incredible renown and value. Thanks to an investigation on the part of Wyatt Bowman, the Pack have the scent of the Orchid, but have yet to discover the location of one of these plants.
  • The Kenju Manuscript – a delicate manuscript from the 4th Chinese Imperial dynasty, the Kenju Manuscript is one of the only pieces which has ‘commonly known’ magical powers. That is to say that the belief is that those who possess the Manuscript will be prosperous and successful. The Manuscript is currently to be found in the Museum of British Columbia.
  • The Hoki Cu-stick – in the possession of the Yakuza, housed in the Yakuza’s Pagoda in the heart of downtown Vancouver, the Hoki Cu stick is an artifact of noted renowned. According to legend, this stick was used by generations of Hoki Champions and Chiefs in battle while ‘Counting Cu.’
  • The Obsidian Urn – to be found in the Municipal Museum of Vancouver, the Obsidian Urn is a noted piece dating back to the time of the Byzantium. Presently on loan to the Municipal Museum, the Urn is rumored to contain the ashes of Mechizopai, a noted wiseman and reputed sorcerer of the Byzanti Age.
  • The Rage Helm – a oddly named Viking Artifact, for this Helm has few differences than those worn by Vikings of the 11th century. Legend tells, however, that so much blood passed before the eyes of this helm, that the wearer gains special insight into death, even going to far as to make him immune to death. Whereabouts unknown.
  • The Saber DuCarden – currently in the possesion of a powerful Industrialist by the name of Atherton Cole, the Saber DuCarden was made during the reign of Louis XVI of France for the Duke of DuCarden. Upon receiving the sword as a gift from the King, the Duke swore that he would never brandish the weapon against the King or his lawful rule. Three years later, the Duke, who had been plotting against the King for some time, was discovered in collution with known Discernters by the Musketteers of the King. When the Duke moved to draw the sword in his defence, he discover that it would not budge. According the the growing legend, since that day no one has drawn the sword, and no scientific studies have been published on the reason why. Whether the sword is enchanted, or whether the Louis XVI knew of the teachery of DuCarden in advance and in knowing gifted the Duke with a trick-swordless sword, it is anyone’s guess.
  • Also during this time, Wyatt set about to find a suitable Totem for the Pack. Coming up with the idea of a ‘Raven’, Wyatt tracked down a ‘Raven Flock’ Spirit by the epithet ‘Black Rod’. (Ravens are grouped in Parliaments… Black Rod is the title of the man who officially opens the British Parliament every year!) After a brief scuffle with one of Black Rod’s minions, Wyatt was able to gain the tacit approval of the Powerful Spirit, and was told to return in six days with his Alpha and/or pack in tow.

Among the spirits, Wyatt met was a Ephemeral Entity of the Interegnum, a spirit of Change. This bizarre creatures can be found when change is occuring. They are friend to few, but enemy to many. Change, in general, is not liked.’
