I was an orphan, a street urchin like so many in the big cities. I managed to get some work as a deck hand on one of the ships in the harbour. I worked hard and managed to work my way up through the ranks till i made first mate at the age of 20 and captain some years later. At the age of 28 i had amased a small fortune by scrimping and saving and using my feel for the market to get great returns. It was then that a great opportunity presented itself, the owner of the trading company wished to retire. I took out some loans and combined with my savings bought him out. The first few years were tough, very tough. The company had been run poorly and as well as my own debts i had to worry about the trading companies outstanding debts. My fleet originally contained 4 vessels but alas one met an ill fate. I was captaining the ship when it was attacked by pirates. We faught them but they proved too much. My crew was captured, no doubt to be put into slavery, i who had been grivously wounded in the fight was left for dead and the ship set alight. I managed to drag myself into the ocean and onto some wreckage and lay there adrift for several days. It was then in the searing heat of the sun that i became exalted. I floated there for several days marveling at creation as i had never seen it before and was eventually washed up on the shores of the inner sea from wence i made my way back to Kirigast and my destiny!

As the next manse lay in the middle of a shadowland we decided timing was crucial. We would enter at dawn, get what had to be done done and leave before nightfall. We landed on the island with no trouble, there were quiet a few undead around but they seemed to be randomly wandering about with no purpose.
As they weren’t bothering us we made our way to the manse, as we did the number of undead incresed but they were still no threat. Upon our approach was a large stone which appeared to be a focus of some kind which was maintaining the borders of the shadowland, whether it was stopping the shadowland from expanding or collapsing was unclear though. Upon reaching the manse we discovered that there were several wards in place, one against the dead and one against humans. Lucius began to take down the ward against humans while the rest of the circle took up defensive positions. Through the mass of undead Laef began to notice a certain pattern, several undead who seemed to be trying to blend in by wandering but closing. Suddenly the party was ambushed, the resulting combat was shortlived and rather one sided with the undead either being slaughtered or fleeing from Riptals anima barrier. With the ward removed the circle entered and made their way to the heart of the manse to find that it could not be activated as a key part of the mechanism was missing. There were several bodies scattered throught the manse, dressed in DB clothing of house Boral. We talked to one of the bodies, it appears that their essense had been trapped inside by the same wards that were keeping the dead out. We agreed to release his essense in exchange for information. He informed us that the missing part of the mechanism was in a hidden city to the northwest, this was a house Boral city which they had hidden at the time of usurpation. Upon releasing him we sought to return to the ship. Glancing into the crowd we could see that a large number of conscious undead had gathered. We fought a running battle back to the Unfathomable Sea and set a course for the hidden island.

As we drew close to estimated location of the island we saw a Pelops frigate on the horizon so we decided to submerge. As we closed we saw the bottom of several dozen ships. We then came upon a force shield. The shield didn’t reach to the seabed so we swam under leaving Rex to guard the ship. When we surfaced we were greeted by a load of DBs with a lot of bows pointed at us. We were stripped of our weapons and brought before a magistrate being treated as spies. Gambling that Boral was still loyal i revealed myself to be a Solar whereupon profound apologies were offered and our good returned. I requested they send someone to inform Rex that the city was safe. The DBs were astounded that the Unfathomable Sea had returned and that the Solar had at long last returned.

After the party at Hannacks there was a lot of fallout. Some of his men sacrificed themselves as the anaethema that were saught and the wyld hunt declared Kirighast purged. With dramatic events out of the way and some manses to activate it was decided a bit of downtime was in order. Before departing for the open seas the circle decided to clear up some loose ends and catch up on long overdue projects.

Laef began training in his new senechal as his former had moved to take control of hannicks businesses. He also hosted a party for the well to do in which he announced his plans for a work program, poor house and orphanage to aid the poor and that he required their assistance in the form of donations or jobs for the newly trained workers to fill. Claiming that together we can make things better for all and make Kirighast the envy of creation.

Lucius used the time to catch up on some overdue work, summoning an elemental to assist him in creating weapons any of his circle mates who desired one. The bargain was to burn the sails of 50 ships and in exchange he would empower the weapons and grant favourabe winds 3 named ships (Vestnors merchant ships). Lucius used the finest steel available (bought at a bargain price by Laef ) and due to his exceedingly good craftsmanship the weapons are all of excellent quality. He also set about creating more of a solid theurgists group. Up until now it had been a loose association, Lucius sought to increase cooperation and communication in the group.

Riptal fought in some martial arts tournaments, trying to make a name for himself in anticipation of opening his own dojo.
Rex did something… drinking maybe…?
Nigma also did something… stealing maybe…?

With all the loose ends tied up the circle left aboard The Unfathomable Sea bound for the first of the manses (located in the south of creation). Upon drawing close to the location of the manse the centre stone of the control panel began to pulse. This gave a good sounding on the location of the manse as it pulse quicker the nearer we drew. As we had approached at night we had decided it would be best to wait until morning just in case there was anything in the water (as the manse appeared to be underwater). During Lucius’ watch the ship was boarded by several shark like fair folk. The ensuing battle was short with the circle easily mopping up the invaders. The interrogation was somewhat difficult as although the creatures could understand old realm their mouths where not designed for speech. As it turns out there were a great many of them located at the manse. We informed the creature that this had been an unfortunate misunderstanding and we would let him go but he must inform his superiors that we wished to negotiate. He returned to his underwater realm and shortly later a great many shark men began circling the ship and their leader, a grotesque parody of man and octopus, boarded. Negotiations were brief, we informed them that we were solars and had need of the manse, they informed us that they had been placed there by House Boral to guard the manse. Through this link i managed to convince the fair folk leader that since they were loyal to Boral and in turn Boral were loyal to us that they should also be loyal to us. The leader seemed to accept his logic rather grudgingly and agreed to allow us to access the manse. After some negotiation over compensation for the dead boarders we finally agreed to grant a pint of blood from each of us who had slain a warrior on the condition it was not to be used for any form of sorcery, the leader was bound to this oath by Laef. The manse was activated and the Unfathomable Sea set off for the next manse.

Primary Stone
Water – Level 4 – Manse located in the south of creation, guarded by a group of fair folk, placed there and loyal to house Boral. The manse is located underwater but can surface if commanded too. Heartstone powers ship and submarine ability. Also grants water breathing to all those on board (as per stone of aquatic prowess)

Secondary Stones
Abyssal – Level ? – Associated castes = Night/Twilight
Located in the southeast of creation on an island which has become a small shadowland. The manse itself is a ziggerath in appearance and has been warded against the dead, spirits and until recently humans (ward removed by the circle). Heartstone allows the ship to become invisible. “insert power here” (something stealthy, cant recall)

Description

First age construction style ship (bar midsection made of wood) powered by 6 (1 large, 5 small) Heartstones from 6 manses scattered across creation. The large heartstone is provides the main power for the ship and allows the ship to submerge for several hours, this allows grants those on board the ability to breath underwater. Each of the other heartstones are bound to a caste. When the heartstone for the relavant caste is in place and they take the helm the ship alters itself to a configuration more suited to that caste (detailed below).

Dawn: Fore of the ship opens up displaying a mount for an implosion cannon, the cannon is not there suggestion that it will need to be placed or possibly will appear when the ship is complete. Controls also appear that allow for an energy field which blocks incoming fire. this shield only lasts for 5 minutes or so.
Zenith: Unknown
Twilight: Camoflagues as regular vessel
Night: Cloak renders ship invisible
Eclipse: Unknown
There is also a control panel that is a permanent feature, this allows the user to activate a propulsion device. A very useful feature as it means the ship can be piloted by one individual and/or when the ship is becalmed, albeit only for 6 hours a day.

History

(will flesh this out when i get a chance)
Built by dragon bloods who remained loyal to the solars during the usurpation, House Boral. This house has not been heard from in some time and is assumed to have died out. Recently however “insert name of circle here” discovered the hidden city of House Boral. Contained within were many wonders of the first age and the remnants of House Boral, which remains to this day loyal to their Solar masters. Their existence however was not a complete secret however a grand armada of House Pelops had been besieging the island for some time. It is here that the solars learned of the true history of the Unfathomable Sea, Kirighast and House Boral.

(more to follow…)

Since i can sell sand to a saudi i suggest that i flog off any loot the party acquires and act as buyer for any equipment or property people want and so i suggest we put together a shopping list. i know Mark was talking about setting up a dojo, Peter would like a summoning cage and materials to forge some weapons and i want ships, ships and more ships and to some day down the line set up a poor house/orphanage but is there anything else people want (besides an empress’ ransom in beer John!). if its something you want as a matter of priority such as armour or a better weapon put a * beside it or something to mark it’s importance.

Extract from the journal of Murchad Mac Lorcain
Day 6
We have returned to the covenant. Ludo has taken a turn for the worst. Despite the efforts of the moor and I his wound has become infected. We have heard little from him besides the mumblings of a man in fever and he has not yet come to. Upon our return I summoned a council meeting and asked Losseloth to tend to the fat man. We have placed Tracsus in one of the guest quarters, as much for his safety as to make sure he doesn’t escape and we have summoned a quaesitor. No doubt they will hear of what happened in bishopton, best they hear it from us. This is the real gem though, Roland, the damsel in distress was in his lab when we returned. He gave little explanation of where he was and I was in no mood to press.

Day 7
Willhelm has been talking to Tracus. It is mostly mad ramblings but through the nonsense he has managed to piece that Tracsus had lost a book, the book of Veritas! The very book saught by our enemies the cursed shadowflame. We discussed what was to be done in council. Myself, Willhelm and Roland would take some grogs and head back to Bishopton, we suspect there may ne a traitor in out midst and if this knowledge if on our hands it may well be in theirs. As such we departed as soon as was possible. I am unaccustomed to being clean shaven. As my image was circulated amongst the guard by the bishop and I was there a few days ago I decided it would be best to disguise myself. I removed my beard and dyed my hair black. It ill suits me but the illusion is very good.

Day 9
It was dark upon our arrival. We decided it would be best for the grogs to remain outside the town as we would draw too much attention to ourselves by marching in with a group of armed men. Myself and Roland entered the town as quietly as possible with relative ease. The town of Bishopton looks as though it been through a war, burned buildings litter the town and the streets are deathly quiet. Roland cast an invisibilty spell on both of us and we slipped in through the back of the palace. There were a few guard on duty and they seemed on edge but we managed to slip by them to roughly where the bishops quarters were. There were two more guards on duty on either side of the door. Just as we were about to strike we heard a thump and the door opened. There were two bright flashes indicative of of a ball of abysmal flame. The shadowflame were here! Myself and Roland charged into the room to slay the fiends to find no one there! It appears that we were no the only ones who were invisible. We searched the room for our foes to no avail but finding a copy of the Book of veritas, it it appears that the bishop in his infinite stupidity had made a copy of the book. It was then that Roland noticed that the bishops robes were moving as though being searched. He grabbed hold of the figure and cast lungs of watery death, disabling him at which point he became visible. I heard a noise in the adjoining chamber and entered. Although I couldn’t see anyone I took a guess at where the noise had originated. Although I failed to vaporise them the flash made them lose concentration and they became visible. There, not 2 paces from me, dressed in shadowflame garb was none other than Religa of Mistridge carrying in her arms the damned book. I summoned upon the greatest of all forces, fire, to condemn this creature to hell and alas was cheated. Just as her doom was about to be sealed she teleported away using some variant of leap of the homecoming. Cheated, I quickly extinguished the flames and gathered the body of the magus while Roland cast leap of the homecoming. We could hear the guards approaching and although we could easily dispatch them it would be best to avoid such a confrontation as at that point nothing could link us to this raid.

I appeared in Rolands lab. It’s an odd place but I did not linger as I knew Roland would not be long behind and to violate a wizards santum is a grave insult. While en route to the council chambers I passed Luke on the stairs. He seemed rather taken aback by the shadowflame corpse slunked over my shoulder but I assured him that all would be explained in council, which was to be summoned immediately. As I reached the chambers I was incepted by a messenger, Grimgoth wanted to meet to discuss matters at hand. I fear this may be a trap but the potential gains of meeting him and possibly gaining him as an ally against the shadowflame outweigh the risks.

Losseloth was unable to attend the meeting, between tending to Ludo and Cecile she has scarce time to do anything. Willhelm is a day or two away, returning from Bishopton with the grogs. It looks as though this meeting will consist purely of myself, Roland and Luke. After filling him in on recent events we discussed matters at hand. It was decided that in the morning I would go to meet Grimgoth, at a town roughly halfway between both covenents taking a turb of grogs and Antonio. The message appears to be genuine but all the same, best not to take chances. I am told that Willhelm returned later that day, after being informed of the decisions of the council he decided it would be best to accompany me.

Despite the dark tidings of this day I have 2 new great hopes, twin daughters, both with the gift running stong in them. We have yet to decide on names but they are truly a blessing.

Day 12
We set off shortly after lunch, although the journey is quite long it can mostly be done by ship so we arrived at the village shortly before sundown. Grimgoth was there ahead of me. I approached cautiously and ordered the grogs to take up sentry positions. Discussions were quite icey. Grimgoth, like me, is not a man to split words. He questioned me on how the statue came into my possesion and of threat to the order of which I spoke. Reluctantly I revealed to him that Oak Court had been fighting with a group of diabolist magi known as the shadowflame and that they sought a book they believed to be in our keeping. I revealed that we had killed two members of this group and that I knew the identity of one other. He pressed me for a name and I revealed it was Relega. At which point the hill erupted all around us. Knocked from my feet and sorely wounded I rose to see Grimgoth firing pilums through the dust cloud at an unseen enemy and a large group ramshackled figure which could barely be called human, no doubt some form of cultist brought by the shadowflame. The battle was short but vicious, the bitch had managed to escape but all of the cultists had been cut down or cleansed in flame. Grimgoth was enraged, he gave his leave and departed for his own covenant, no doubt in an attempt to catch up with the whore. I tended to the my wounds and the wounds of the grogs, I have a limited understanding of healing but enough so that our wounds will not get worse or get infected. We saught lodgings in the town so as to rest and recover from our wounds.

Day 13
We set off for home at first light and arrived mid afternoon. Cecile was at first destraught that I was injured and then furious that I had almost gotten myself killed. Bah! I was barely in any danger at all! She is now in one of her moods again and refuses to speak to me. Whats more the quaesitors have arrived, three of them with and escort of hoplites. Ludo is to be put on trial on several charges, interfering with mortals and risking bringing the wraith of the church upon the order.
