Ancient History
When the elder race where but children there was a great war in the heavens and the world was tore asunder. Of the cause of this great conflict none know save the gods themselves. Many gods perished yet on they fought till the gods exhausted by their struggle fell into slumber. As the gods slept the elder races spread out across the world. However the gods sleep was troubled by the memories of their war and their dreams took shape-waging war upon the elder races. It was during this time of terror that the Elves (or Oath Breakers as they are called by the dwarfs) forged an alliance with the other races and drove the Horrors back. As time has passed the Gods have awoke and the Horrors vanished though it is feared some slumber still.
Some 3000 year ago the Dwarf Realm of Karaz Ankor covered from of the east of the known world as far as the Worlds Edge mountains to the great forests along the west coast of the world sea that was held by the Elves. However it did not take long for Elven arrogance and Dwarf obstinacy to spark the great conflict that would later become know as the Oath Wars between the two races, that devastated the old realm and drove the elves to abandon this part of the world. The warring tribes of the younger races of Orcs and Men quickly filled the power vacuum left behind. The Orcs superior strength and sheer belligerence might have over come the tribes of man had it not been for the intervention of the Dwarfs, themselves beleaguered by the rampaging Orcs. With formation of the alliance the Orcs were for the most part driven back to the lands beyond the Worlds Edge Mountains. Though tales of a third race raiding in support of the alliance persist to this day.
Since those days the tribes of men have coalesced into the there various kingdoms that now hold sway across the old dwarfen realm. The Dwarfs for the most part returned to there holds in the world Edge Mountains as the drive their enemies from their ancestral homeland, though many have chosen to stay and live among the younger race of man.
History of Duvik’s Pass
Duvik’s Pass is a small town nestled within one of the few valleys that cross through the Serpentcoil Mountains near the sight of and old dwarfen stronghold long destroyed during the Oath Wars. It has long been a way stop for travellers and adventurers seeking to rest aching limbs and drown painful memories within her gates. Since the destruction of the last of the Orc Thorn Claw tribe some twenty years ago it has enjoyed relative peace and tranquillity. Moreover, it has also gained attention recently as a potential power in the area?s commerce, due to a rediscovery of an old dwarf mine containing substantial silver deposits buried in the mountains nearby. Burgomaster Christopher Von Bek brought in Master Burlok Tungstan to oversee the reopening and running of the mines for a share in the profits. Over the past five years, the people of Duvik’s Pass have burrowed into the ground seeking the wealth therein. Able-bodied folk both dwarf and men have flocked to the town, hoping to lend their strength within the mines and garner some share of the prize.
Hope and industry turned to despair and potential ruin with the advent of the Burning Plague four months ago. It began quietly enough, with the miners returning home from their work at nightfall complaining of blistering sores and an unbearable thirst. Shortly thereafter, the town?s livestock was decimated by an unknown illness and her crops began to wither. The elders of Duvik?s Pass declared that the well water had been soured by an unknown disease, but by then the Burning Plague had already begun claiming the young and the sickly. To make matters worse, the last few men still strong enough to plumb the wealth of the mine are feared to have fell prey to an unknown threat just over half a month past as they have not been seen since?.

Character Concept Guide
The characters have lived in Duvik’s Pass either all their lives or have moved to the town since the reopening of the silver mines fiver years ago.
When thinking of your character concept, think more in terms of your characters job and then select a suitable class. (i.e. town militia and caravan guards would be warriors, pick pockets and footpads would be rogues)
The tone of the game will be heroic adventure with the players initially exploring the surrounding area to gain some experience before launching themselves in to the wider world.
For players that write up a diary of their characters adventures and submit it to me there will be a small exp reward. How involved you want to make it is up to you but at the very least it should contain names and descriptions of people and places as well as any events of note.
Finally after the first story if you decide you’ve made a horrible mistake I will allow changing or redesign of characters within reason. Later in the story characters can be retired and new ones introduced as new races and locations become available.
