Brief History: I've always liked playing racing games dating back to my early Spectrum 128k days and I always tended to beat anyone I played. In the Summer of 1998, I was at home for a few days and my sisters boyfriend, David, brought up his old Snes and MarioKart with it. He was a lot better than me at the time, and set a few times for me on time trials mode to beat. I stayed up until 5am that night beating his times (without using the shoulder button). Later that week, I got back to Dublin, and searched the city for a SNES and a copy of MarioKart but I couldn't find them anywhere, so to make up for it, I bought an N64 and MarioKart64 that very day. I went into college and printed out the World Record times from Rex's page (All of which I've now beaten) and started playing Time Trials almost exclusively. Before I disappeared from Kart in early 1999 I decided to beat every single time I had with Peach and then submitted my 32 times. I reached Elite B with those times. I was home again in the summer of 2000 and I brought my N64 down to play versus and battle modes with David. He told me to try and beat some of my Time Trials times and I said that I wouldn't get close after all this time. He replied with:
"Yeah, I suppose you're too old now. I guess you've just lost it" and that was all it took to make me pick up my controller and start racing again.
