Kale (OOC) asks, "You want to pose first?"
Brin (OOC) says, "ok then."
Brin stands in the desert, buried to his ankles in the sand that has blown about him since he last moved. His face is screwed up in a look of complete concentration, and his tongue is sticking slightly out as he squints along the barrel of the long pistol he holds. In the general direction of where he is pointing it, there is a smallish rock, about a foot wide, with pockmarks in the sandd around it, and one or two chips taken out of it. His back tenses as he prepares to take his next shot.
Claws leaving jagged holes in the sand that are quickly covered up as the wind continues to blow the sand behind him, Kale walks across the desert. Some sort of large, rifle-like object is strapped to his back, and his faded Gebler uniform seems to almost blend in to the desert sky's backdrop.
Brin tenses even more, and lets off another shot. The loud report from his pistols travels almost to the gates of Dazil, and another pockmark appears in the sand, just behind the rock. "Blast..." he mutters, as with a quick movement, he lets the six empty shells slip out the back of the pistol, and begins reloading.
Kale 's rather large ears twitch as the sounds of gunfire reach his ears. He jogs forward, a slightly worried look on his face, till he sees brin and the 'practice rock'. He gives a wave and a shout, and approches the etone.
Brin had just finished the reloading process, when he hears a shout from behind him. He whirls round, and points the pistol in that general direction. The end of the pistol is visibly shaking, and he peers into the dust. As he sees a familiar face, he lowers the gun sheepishly, and speaks. "Oh, er, hello..." he squeaks, as Kale draws up. "What brings you out here?"
Kale shrugs as his tail taps the ground. "I needed to get out of Dazil for the moment. Things are...less then pleasent for me there, now."
Brin disinterrs himself from the sand, and stands on a small pile of empty pistol shells that was beside him, which clink and scrape together. He holsters his gun. "Ah, I see. There was some...unpleasantness there recently, I think..." o 0 ( ...or rather, I know... ). "Mind me asking what's up? It seems like a lot of people now are uncomfortable in Dazil. It'll be a ghost town soon..." He smiles slightly, his face now relaxing again.
Kale sighs, and takes a seat on the target rock. "Well...I'm getting worried that a confrontation with the rebels may be coming soon...and despite this uniform, I have friends amoung them. I have been trying to find some way to prevent the violence...but I'm not sure if the ends justify the means."
Brin nods. "Well, you're not alone in that belief, I'm sure." he crouches down, and begins scooping the empty shells into a small bag he has produced from his pocket. "A confontation would be...unfortunate indeed. i don't savour such an occurance". He frowns slightly. o 0 ( ...more than anything. Because it means choosing... ). "If you have friends among the rebels, did it not strike you that it might eventually come to this when you joined gebler?". He looks up at Kale, and suddenly realises how rude he's been. "Oh my. I do apologise. How rude of me". He stares down at the sand sheepishly.
Brin (OOC) says, "Eeek, gotta afk. I'll be 2 minutes, ok? Sorry."
Kale (OOC) says, "Not a problem."
Kale sighs, and hangs his head, ears drooping. "No...you've hit all to close to home.." Kale sighs again. "I never would've joined Gebler...but someone's life was at stake. I couldn't see any other way to help them. So, I joined what I once hated." Kale shakes his heads. "I would leave, but Joseph has been acting increasingly vindictive of late...what he could level against the few friends I have made in gebler, or even the townspeople who have befriended me, frightens me."
Brin (OOC) says, "Gah, and double-gah. Took longer than i expected."
Kale (OOC) says, "Like I said, not a problem."
Brin (OOC) says, "Ack! Just ose the pose. Hang on."
Brin (OOC) says, "Lost the pose, even."
Kale (OOC) says, "That's fine, take your time."
Brin nods again. "A difficult situation to be in, true". He looks toward Kale "My original intention when I cam here was not to take sides. Since I now have associates on bothe sides, I suspect that will count double now." He stares back at the gates of Dazil. "Perhaps it is inevitable, though, that I fight, to defend myself, or innocents caught up in whatever transpires..." He looks down at the ground at his feet. o 0 ( ...on my own?... ) He looks at Kale. 2Although from the loks of your seat, I suspect I need a little more practice." He puts on a sheepish grin, which quickly disappears.
Kale sighs. "It is much to violent a time...I had once thought to raise a family here, if I could find more of my kind. But in these days, when even priest have to carry guns for safety...I would not raise my children in such a place or time."
Kale (OOC) says, "Kale ICly doesn't really know about Etones."
Brin (OOC) nods.
Brin looks down at Kale, and glances at his holster. "Yes, for...defence. Most of my kind have them. Not for defnce, mostly. I never cared for them, which means I'm a little out of practice." He grins. "And since I recently had my staff destroyed, I guess I'll be needing this at some stage..." He taps the butt of his gun absentmindedly.
Kale shrugs. "I really do not know that much about your order, but be careful...I would not want you to get caught in the crossfire, should fighting break out."
Brin nods. "Believe me, It's the last thing I want for myself, or any innocent people... I suppose fighting is perhaps inevitable, let's just hope it doesn't happen in a populated are a, like Dazil, or the base."...He narrows his eyes, and peers back at the Dazil gates. "if it does, well, god have mercy on us all." He places his hand on his pistol again. Looking tough doesn't suit the gangly young priest, And hsi attempt at it falls slightly short of believable, but slightly beyond laughable.
Kale nods, a grim look on his face. "I try to steer it away from civilians...but I fail all to often." He sighs, and slips he weapon off his shoulder and into his lap. "The new weapons aren't helping either...an idiot with a laser rifle is more dangerous then a legion of decent men with pistols."
You don't see anything interesting.
Brin turns, and peers at Kale's rifle. "Laser rifle? That I have not heard of before. Ridiculously overpowered, I assume?". He steps in for a closer look.
Kale nods. "Here, take a look." Kale makes sure the safty is on, then hands the rifle to Brin. "Be careful with it." Of course, if Brin was actually a rebel, Kale's lifespan would've just taken a rather long drop down.
Brin bares his teeth, and looks like he has just been handed a small bomb. And perhaps he has. He gingerly turns the rifle over in his hands, inspecting the workings of it in so far as it can be examined from outside. He peers through the sights for a second, and carefully hands it back. "Hmm, not familiar with Rifles, that much. At least, not this kind. It shoots a laser? Intriguing."... He pulls his own pistol. "Projectiles have a kind of certainty, and tangibility to them, though..." He grins. o 0 ( ...What am I doing? Comparing weapons with a gebler officer? I must be going mad... )
Kale nods. "I have to agree with you...for some things it is better to go with what is known. But then again, sometime new things are nessesary."
Brin replaces his pistol, and agrees. "Yes, sometimes newer things are better. Except in the case of weapons of mass destruction, of course. " He frowns, being sure he hasn't seen anything of the kind in the base. o 0 ( ...perhaps I should warn them about....no, no, I can't... )
Kale blanches. "Luckily, Joseph lost his last one to his own foolishness a while back..." Kale shakes his head, ears twitching. "Then again...if the rebels had one, then Joseph might be persuaded to sue for peace."
Brin nods. "Which would be...a good thing, I think. It means more weapons about, but if it retains the peace, however fragile, perhaps it might be worthwhile." ... he thinks for a while. o 0 ( ... if I could....no, I can't...but if it were for peace..?...what am I thinking... )
Kale nods sadly. "But as it is...Joseph acts with impunity. He is unchecked, but all except that creature that he reports to, which is no help."
Brin pricks up. "Creature?". He thinks back to the strangely-dressed people he'd seen in the bar that night.
Kale shudders. "A horrid thing...blood is always on his hands, and he wears a horrid mask. His armor itself is horrifying, and he has skeletal wings. Some of the people I've met have been strange, like that Bunny Girl, or a bit disturbing, like Archer, but he is the only one I've met who inspires loathing in me."
Brin shrugs. "It would appear that I haven't met him." he intones matteroffactly. "Although from your description, i suspect I'm better off. Joseph takes direct orders from him? Hmmm". Hmmmm.
Kale says, "Indeed...he seems to have a rather bad memory, though...one day, He's trying to kill me, the next week, he is issuing me orders like nothing happend."
Brin nods. "I...know the type..." he frowns "...I helped someone protect a young woman from some thugs some time back, and he then turned on me. Which was strange..." . o 0 ( ...come to think of it, I haven't been to Dazil since... ). "Actually, I never stayed around to see the outcome. I wonder if Ildon is all right.". o 0 ( ...I abandoned him... ).
Kale thinks a moment. "If he is in Dazil, I could check in on him for you."
Brin waves his hand. "No need, I intend on going in there later anyway. I'll do it..." He frowns deeply. "I...think I may have some explaining to do, anyway...". He shrugs. He turns to Kale. "Actually, before that, I was wondering. As you can see from your perch there, I've been practicing a bit. Do you have any pointers I could pick up on? you saw me shoot, I think.".
Kale nods. "Try geting a bit of a better grip on your gun...hold the grip a bit higher up."
Kale says, "You should probebly try to keep your hands a bit steadier."
Brin nods. "Yes, I suspected that. I'll get used to it, I imagine..." He takes out his pistol, and holds it in a different manner, as Kale suggested. It still shakes, however. 2i seem just to have to get used to the weight..." o 0 ( ...and the idea... )
Kale smiles a bit. "Keep at it...you should get better at it as you practice."
Brin puts away his gun again. "Hopefully so..." he says, earnestly. "At least, before any trouble breaks out, I want to be able to at least shoot straight". He smiles, and stares at the indentations in the sand all around Kale, from the missed shots.
Kale grins, and gets off the rock. "Be careful...and next time you're in Dazil, look me up. I hope the practice goes well." Kale slings his laser rifle over his shoulder again, and begins the walk back to the desert city.
