In something of an unfortunate coincidence the Redbrick AGM was on at the very same time as this Union Council meeting. Seeing as how UC is every two weeks, and the AGM is but once a year, I decided to go to the Redbrick event instead.

I had hoped to provide a report from another class rep, but in the absence of such, I'll just reproduce the Minutes of this council, as they were given at the following Union Council meeting.

Minutes of previous meeting passed.

No matters arising.

£250 Demonstration.

A demonstration to be held outside the Dáil, , requiring the Minister for Education to put a cap on the £250 capitation charge to take place letters also sent to the Minister on behalf of the SU.

USI Annual Congress Report.

Dermot Lohan, (yes, our Dermot Lohan - jw ) elected as president of USI. Ronan Emmet of DIT elected Deputy President ( why, oh why, couldn't his name be Robert ? - jw ) Siobhan Feron of Queens elected Welfare Officer. Séan Comer of NCIR elected Union Development Officer. Position of Lesbian, Gay and Bisexual Rights Officer, and Womens Rights Officer were downgraded to part time positions. Financial controller to be employed to monitor the expenditure of USI. Researcher to be employed by USI.

Bar Update Interviews are being carried out, five out of eight have already taken place, three more interviews to come. Special arrangements regarding the Membership Fee to be made for INTRA students.

Unfilled Exec Positions

Should by-elections take place this year or in conjunction with class rep elections next year ? Imperative that people are elected this year to give a good opinion to incoming freshers of the Union. Decided to have by-elections.

Canteen

Letters sent to Martin Conroy from SU cc President O'Hares office. Response reveived within one day. However, no date or time was arranged to hold a meeting. Séamus to send another letter to request a meeting.
