Melmoth Remembers 1798

The following is a list of 1798 rebellion type sigs that I've been using in my mail files for the last few months, which I've decided to archive here. Enjoy.

And the Barrow tomorrow we cross,
On a hill o'er the town, we have planted a gun
That will batter the gateways of Ross!

With brave Harvey to lead on the van;

Will be Kelly, the Boy from Killane !

---------

I should just explain that I only used a pointer to the following and not the whole text, but for clarity here's what the pointer pointed to.

"O! Breathe not his name, let it sleep in the shade,
Where cold and unhonoured his relics are laid,
Sad, silent and dark be the tears that we shed,
As the night due that falls on the grass o'er his head.

But the night due that falls, though in silence it weeps,
Shall brighten with verdure, the grave where he sleeps,
And the tear that we shed, though in secret it rolls,
Shall long keep his memory green in our souls."

- by Thomas Moore.

--------

"My occupation is now of the most unplesant nature, negotiating and jobbing with the most corrupt people under Heaven. I despise and hate myself every hour."
- Cornwallis, Lord Lieutenant.

--------

"An independant country was thus degraded into a province, Ireland, as a notion, was extinguished."
Sir Jonah Barrington, Member of the Irish Parliament.
