NavigationOne cold dark night I was walking home, I saw you. I remember listening to a propaganda message that blasted out of a megaphone from the other side of the street, 'Save yourself'. Who else is there left to save? I'm tightly clutching photographs of you, so I will not forget you as I negotiate this winding path. For some strange reason, my mind is suddenly overcome by lyrics of a song I used to sing. It was strange because I had long since forgotten the words, yet they still appeared line-by-line, verse-by-verse. It was as if you were trying to tell me something. I listen. As I march along, my boots thump the pavement, keeping the sounds of the night in time. The music overcomes me. The night is set to host a million and one different shows, each passer-by starring in a show of their very own. The critics are nowhere to be seen. For one night only, everyone is free. As I scour the night, it is obvious to me that everything is working in perfect unison; we are like links in a chain. I am nearing the end of my journey now. The moonlight lights the way for me, insuring that I take those last few steps. I open the door into the hallway and I am greeted with the sound of the phone ringing. It is you trying to contact me to let me know that everything is fine. The last few pieces of the jigsaw are in place now, so I sit down on the chair and drift off to sleep. |
