J2EE MVC2 Newsgroup reader
[ 23 Dec 2003 ]
[Java]
23 Decebmber 2003 - I wrote this newsgroup reader about a year ago, and did nothing much with it for a good long while. It was more of an introduction to a Model 2 MVC system, what better way to learn it then write one yourself? Something like Jakarta struts is obviously a better option for a production environment, but this was an intersting project.
It's based on MVC-2 back end, using Velocity templates and CSS2.
Features: Connection pooling, Logging, error handling.
As of today (December 23rd) There's a bug on the news server, which means that the webserver can't get article info... Awaiting some sort of fix from the admins, but it'll most likely be the new year.
To do:
W3C schemas & validation
User authentication
Other stuff?
This is definitely a work in progress, I need to clean up a lot of the logging and
take out stuff like hardcoded "action" tags in the generated HTML. (And of course the
to-dos listed above).
It's also a bit too big at the moment, needs trimming and a decent ant build script.
Update [23 Feb 2004]
This doesn't look like it's going to be fixed any time soon. I'm still waiting for them to migrate to the new server.
