Session 8

Session began on the bank Mitheithil. Nobody in the party was certain if they had been on this part of the bank before. So it was decided to head south, this would eventaully lead to the tributary which everybody was familar. After a few hours the company reached the tributary, then headed east until the ford. Camp for the night was set in the same site where Jade had stolen from Eonan. All was quite until third watch. Wolves then began to get closer to the camp. Dwalin grew nervous woke Thorin, Thorin reckoned that the wolves are miles off and went straight back to sleep. The rest of the night passed without incident.

The party headed north at first light aiming to investigate the remains of the campsite where Ulric was wounded. Hopefully some of the equipment the party was forced to abandon would remain. As the group headed north the woods grew thicker. It was not pleasent country, to dark and quite. They reached the campsite about three hours from dusk. Nothing whole remained of the company's gear, only a few torn shreds could be seen lying tattered tangled in a bush. Disappointed the group headed west to see if Ulric's body could be recovered for proper burial. Again all the remained of Ulric wear a few crushed pieces of bone. Lars expressed discontent at not having been able to kill himself. Gathering themslves the group headed south hoping to camp out of range of the wolves.

After travelling south for another two hours the party were forced to make camp by the encroaching darkness. Lots of fire wood was collected and three camp fires were prepared, the party then camped within the protected area. All was quite for Dar's watch. Wolves started to close in during Thorin's watch. He woke Lars who ignored the problem, Thorin then woke Dwalin. At this point the wolves started to get really close, they had obviously gotten the party's scent. Thorin and Dwalin woke everybody, this time not taking no for an answer. Everybody gathered weapons and armour preparing for the wolves to attack.

A short time later a huge wolf advance forward. Dar, Eonan and Lars readied missile weapons. They fired simultaneouly with both Dar and Lars (A-crit) scoring minor strikes. Missile fire continued, only Lars managed to continue to hit the beast, while Dar managed to fumble his longbow, stunning himself. Dwalin then pulled a brand from the fire and scared off the wolves by throwing it at them. The party then received respite for about 20 minutes while the wolves gathered themselves. During this time Lars and Eonan prepared flame arrows using bandages and oil.

Another wolf started to approach the clearing, Lars and Eonan both lite fired the flame arrows, Dar settle for a normal arrow. Lars managed to scratch his eye with the fletching of the arrow. Dar shot the wolf through he heart (E-crit) while Eonan's shot caught the unfortunate beast in the side. The wolves retreated. After another short break the wolves made one last attempt on the camp. This time Lars shot one of them through the leg with a flame arrow (C-crit). The party took double watches for the rest of the night.

At first light the journey to the castle began. The forest grew dark and forboding as the company headed north. They reached the castle about an hour before noon. The forest reached right to the westren edge of the fort. The group stayed amongest the trees to avoid being noticed. Lars was sent to scout out around the front of the castle. He returned after a short while. The castle was in bad condition. Of its four towers; two were intact, one partially ruined and one a ruin. The ruined tower was covered in huge black birds. The keep was to the west of the structure and was an unusual hexagonal shape. A stream flowed out from the courtyard next to the ruined main gate.

The party removed their packs and secured them in a tree, Eonan's horses also anchored there. Weapons at the ready the company set out for the main gate. The gates were clearly once quite impressive however they were now broken, blackened and wrapped by some terrible heat. The courtyard of the castle was in a poor state, The remains of wooden structures lay where they had toppled. However there was also evidence of more recent occupation, such as a plank lying across the stream. To start the group decided to check out the towers before moving on to the keep. The nearest tower was the one that was partially ruined. Eonan was appointed point man for the day and headed in first. There was little of interest inside and the place stank. The party quickly left.

They then headed towards the intact tower next to the main gate. Eonan carelessly kicked in the front door. There was nothing on the ground floor except for some rubbish and a stairs leading up. Headed for the first floor, signs of recent occupation were readily available, chests filled with miscellaneous gear... Orc voices could be heard from the second floor. It seemed like they were preparing to leave the tower. Dar pulled the others out of the tower were they set to preparing an ambush for the Orcs if they tried to come out.

An Orc tried to rush out, thumping at Eonan's shield with his scimitar. Thorin missed it with his Warhammer, Eonan scored a glancing hit and Dar stabbed it in the leg (C-crit). The Orc retreated back into the tower. From there the Orcs started firing out arrows and throughing rocks.. Lars was sent back to the bagage to fetch a flask of oil. Using the oil the party hoped to burn the Orcs out. Before Lars returned things started to develope. From inside the tower sounds of scuffling and could be heard. Eonan took point on the door with Dar on his left anf Thorin to the right. Something could be heard charging down the passage. Both Dar and Thorin attacked the shape as it burst into the daylight, until to find that they had just killed a helpless hobbit who's hands were tied behind its back. Meanwhile a huge Orc stepped over the lifeless hobbit to be stabbed by Eonan. He only did minor damage (A-crit), the Orc in return missed Eonan but his momentum carried him into the warrior and they both tumbled to the ground.

Two more Orcs emerged from the tower in the confusion, Dwalin took a shot at one using Thorin's crossbow, he missed. Eonan tossed the Orc#1 off his chest. It had being trying to reach for a dagger, the weapon went flying out of reach. Orc#3 was then attacked by both Dar and Thorin the flurry of blows caused it to flee injured back into the tower. Orc#2 swung at Thorin but missed. Thorin hit it in the chest with his hammer but its armour took most of the blow (A-crit). Dar then slashed it's weapon arm, however the Orc managed to hold onto it's sword. Dwalin dropped the crossbow and drawing his warhammer joined in against Orc#1. The Orc#1 made a break for it, Eonan dived for its knees and tackled it to the ground. A bolt flew from the tower graving Dar in the side. Orc#2 again attacked Thorin and again missed. Dar then lobbed off its weapon arm (E-crit) it collapsed to the ground and Dar finished it with a stab through the neck. Dwalin smashed the shoulder (C-crit) of Orc#1 which was still struggling with Eonan on the ground. He then finished the Orc by crushing its skullthe Orc by crushing its skull.

All the Orcs outside the tower had now been killed. The huge ugly birds had already started to fight over their remains. There was at least on left inside the tower. It was decided to go in after it. Eonan took point with Dar and then Thorin following. Dwalin and Lars who returned just as the fight had ended kept watch outside. As he headed down the passage a blot flow straight through Eonan's shield and into his armour. The force was gone from the stike though, it did little damage. Something else then bounced off his shield and strangly an Orc screamed in pain. On entering the tower Eonan could see two Orcs. He moved to attack Orc#4 as it dropped a crossbow and drew a sword. Eonan swung widely at the Orc and inthe excitment swallowed his tongue. Dar and Thorin stepped into the tower and both turned to engage Orc#3, neither did much damage but it was enough for the injured Orc which collapsed. Dar finished the Orc#3 with a blow to the skull. The final Orc realising it was now alone facing 3 opponents ran for the stairs. Nobody was fast enough to grab it, they could only follow as it ran to the second floor. From there it dropped a trap door. It could be heard to seal itself in by pilling furniture onto the trapdoor.

Dar spent the next few minutes trying to break down the trapdoor. He ancient wood was too hard to split or splinter and it was too awkward to smash being overhead. The party went through the contents of the chests ans examined the Orc's weapons. Dwalin retrieved the crossbow that Orc#4 had dropped. Thorin scoffed at him for this, but Dwalin recognising the weapon as the one he had left behind at the campsite was quite happy. He also found 10 bolts in one of the chests. There was nothing else of value there unfortunately. Lars went outside to check if it would be possible to scale the tower. From there he could see that the birds had started to eat the Orc corpses. Almaringly a group of the birds had even managed to carry off one of the orcs.

The party realised that there was little they could do about the orc. Also they believed it was important to check out the rest of the castle quickly. Dwalin was left behind with both crossbows to guard the orc. As the rest of the party left the tower they could see that some birds had started coming in to eat Orc#3. The actions of the birds reaffirmed the parry's commitment to stay away from the ruined tower. The headed for the other intact tower. This tower was located right next to the keep. The stream ran next to the entrance. Eonan again took point and warily looked inside. The floor of the tower and all upper stories had collapsed in. The rubble was piled in what was once the basement. This basement had been flooded by the stream. In the water a chest could be seen. Dar and Thorin started greedily makiing plans on how to get to this treasure. Eonan on the other hand seemed paranoid about traps and water pythons. His paranoia was infectious, it was party decided to worry about the chest at a later date.

Lars had headed back to Dwalin to tell him the final tower was clear of enemies. When he returned Dar headed over there ancious to have another crack at getting to the Orc. On entering the bottom floor of the tower he could see that there were now about ten birds in the room. He dashed past them receiving many cuts and scrapes in the mayhem. After further examination of the trap door, Dar still could not think of a way to open to it. They decided to leave it and go check out the keep. Dwalin threw a side of ham, which just seemed to appear in his hand, down the stairs to distract the birds. Then the two of them rushed from the tower.

The group assembled next to the doors of the keep. The doors were shut and by peering through the joint it could be seen that they were barred from the inside. Thorin lifted the bar using a discarded Orc scimitar. From there the doors were easy to push open. The tattered remains of an ancient grand hall lay before the party. Rubbish and the remains of furniture lay scattered on a once grand marble floor. Shredded tapestries hung from the walls. Stairs led up to a balcony to the north of the hall, to the south stairs led down to a lower floor. Party quickly checked out the room. Dar found 5 gold pieces behind a tapestry, which he shared out. After only a few minutes the group headed up to the balcony. There were two rooms. A bedroom and another room with an alter in the corner. Neither contained anything of particular interest. There was also a stairs set into the main wall of the keep leading up.

The party headed up to the second floor. There they were greeted by Zute. She was the leader of a group of eight score beautiful women between sixteen and nineteen and a half. The women imprisoned the party demanding spankings and oral sex.
