Some Wildlife of the Nickos Archipelago

The Islands support a wide array of life. However due to the isolation from any major landmass the life generally swam or flew to the islands. Hence there are no indigenous graving herbivores or other land mammals. Also there are no large predators as they would have had nothing to eat.

What can be found in great profusion around the islands is maratime life. The Seas team with seals, sea-lions, walruses and various fish. The Uukgii and the Gyda would eat a lot of seal meat. The Uukgii in particular would like it as the seals can be caught on land.

One of the more interesting species around the Islands are the Great Grey Whales. The Whales are vast and the wise amoung the Gyda swear blind that they are smart. The Gyda do not hunt them as the adults are too large and tales tell of terrible revenge if the Young of the Great Greys are killed. The Whales themselves are only Winter in the islands. Each year as Summer fades Several pods each usually with a few pregnant females make their way tp the shallow waters around the islands. There safe in the shallow waters from the terrible Winter storms the whales give birth. Once the young are a few months old and thw weather has improved they had back to the deep open seas. The Whales ar curious creatures and have been known to come right up to shops and harbours.

Also found around the islands are Sea Beavers. While they don't make dams, they do consatruct lodges along the shore line of the islands. The skies above the islands are always full with the cries of many birds. All sorts of species can be found.
