The Characters
|
Thorin moved Bravd and Jenn to the top floor of the keep. The other party members transfered their belongings over from the tower. Calorn treated Bravd with some Rewk and Thurl to speed his recovery. The horses were brought into the ground floor of the keep for safety. Discussions began on how to loot the keep. Most of the party were reluctant to enter the unexplored rooms for fear of traps. It was decided to to start by thoroughly searching the above ground floors, the party hoped to find more secret chambers. However despite a few hours of searching nothing further was revealed. The wealth of the upper floors was assembled on the balcony. This included a telescope, detailed maps and the ten books in Adunaic. The papers from Turlins lab were also gathered together and taken. Next Bors, Calorn, Dain, Thorin and Taramar searched Turlin's bed chamber. Again they found nothing new. The potions and boots were taken. Seeing as nobody wanted to explore the depths of the keep any further, the only room left to loot was the bear chamber. This of course contained a bear which would make the operation more complicated. Bors instisted the bear was not to be killed. It was decided to feed the bear in order to appease it. Turlin's body was reckoned to be an appropriate food. Bors, Calorn and Thorin returned to the beach to fetch the body. To their alarm the body was gone. Calorn tracked noticed some drag marks and attempted to track them. Unfortunately they pettered out after only a few yards. Hoping that an animal had taken the body the party members left. Back at the keep Calorn and Claybeg went down to the dungeons to release the prisoner. He was very weak. Calorn attempt to feed him some rations, but the salted food was too strong for him. They carried him to the top floor, where Calorn prepared a broth for him to eat. Thankful the man was able to eat that. The nourishment seemed to help him, he said his name was John. He could remember little else due to the number of drugs he had taken during his confinement. Calorn gave John some Rewk to help him heal. John seemed to have some knownledge about herbs. Instead of Turlin the party got an Orc to feed to the bear. They threw in the body and waited for the bear to feed. Calorn prepared a sleep spell just in case. The other party members started filling the saddle bags with the coins from the room. There were thosands of coins. Most were tin or copper but there was also some gold and silver. It took along time to fill the bags and bring them up to the ground floor. Once all the coins that were not in close proximity to the bear were collected, Calorn knocked the bear out with his spell. He then crept up top the animal taking a few gold pieces he found along the way. The examined the bear's collar. He found that the chain could be easily removed by unclipping a simple clasp. Back on the first floor the party settled down to the boring task of sorting the coin. Finally the party ended up with 25 gold, four hundred and fifty silver and nearly two thousand bronze. There was also a huge pile of tin and copper. However it weighed too much to transport so was to be left behind. The money was split between the party members. Claybeg got a half share. The items found were also split up; Bors got the armour, Bravd the battleaxe, Calorn the books and dagger, Claybeg the boots and Thorin the morning star. The maps and telescope were kept for general party use. Calorn took John down to the herb room to see if he recognised anything else valuable. John said that most of what remained were poisons but would not elaborate further. The party prepared their baggage for departure in the morning. The night appeared to pass quitely. In the moring they readied the horses outsdie the castle. Calorn and Claybeg then returned to the bear chamber. Calorn cast sleep on the bear and Claybeg unchained it. They returned to the horses ensuring that all the doors were left open. John was found to be skilled at hiding and looking after himself in the wilderness. He asked to stay on with the party and was accepted. Privately many party members were suspicious about him. They wondered if he had a connection to Lord Fardwith. The party then headed south. The three day journey to the Last Bridge was relatively uneventful.
