Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)

What does the society do?

Act as a social and communication medium for the growing postgraduate community in DCU. It provides information on life as a postgrad in DCU, organises regular social events, gives talks on interesting topics, addresses issues relevant to postgraduates, and anything else you think would be popular! Suggestions are always welcome.

What are the benefits of becoming a member?

You get to meet a large and international community of other postgraduates studying in every faculty in DCU through regular meetings and social events. You can find out what facilities are available to you in DCU as well as information on every-day issues. Subject to funding, you can go on subsidised social events such as table quizzes, treasure hunts, hiking trips or whatever people feel like.

I have an issue with a staff member or DCU in general, can I go to the PG Soc for help?

Yes and no - we can listen to your problems and give you advice, but individual cases are better dealt with through the Students Union. Every student is automatically a member of the Students Union (www.dcusu.ie), which is a democratic organisation that represents DCU students to the college authorities. Your Postgraduate representative in the Students Union also sits on the Academic Council and can tell you whether you have a justified case. However, we have a great interest in issues relating to postgraduates, so talk to us!

Who can join?

Any registered St. Pats, Mater Dei or DCU postgraduate student can join. It doesn't matter whether you are full-time, part-time research or taught student, studying for a Graduate Diploma, Masters, Ph.D., or post-doctoral studies. Members can also invite their friends to join as Guest Members.

How can I join?

The easiest way is to come to our weekly basketball session, Thursday at 5pm or to one of our events.

You can join at any of our events. Alternatively, you can drop us an email (postgrad AT redbrick DOT dcu DOT ie).

How do I contact the PG Soc committee?
