Find out what we're up to...
This section of the site will help you to keep track of our upcoming events, as well as to see what happened at past events.

:: Upcoming Events
These are the events that we are currently planning. Dates and other details are subject to change, but this should give you an idea of the sort of things we have in store. Of course, we'll be notifying everyone by email when we have something new for you to attend, so if you're not on the mailing list, let us know by emailing: msw@redbrick.dcu.ie

AGM & DVD Screening (QG13, DCU ; 28 April 2005, 7.30pm)
Our final event of our amazingly successful year will be our AGM, where we'll elect next year's committee and screen the DVD of our activities that Aidan made. We'll also have a slideshow of photos from the year and the usual free refreshments. It'll be a nice nostalgic look back over our first year and all that we've achieved.

:: Past Events
The following are some of the events that we've already held. As the year goes on, we'll add photographs and info on anything we put on in DCU. If you have any photographs from our events, or thoughts on them, let us know.

EGM & Screening of "The Celtic Riddle" (QG13, DCU; October 2004)
We were delighted with the large turnout to our first event, the EGM. A new secretary, Mags McAuliffe, was elected and some of the planned events for the year were detailed for our members. Free popcorn, coke and chocolate was served, while everyone settled down to enjoy The Celtic Riddle and its less-than-convincing attempts at Irish accents.

:: Appreciation for a fine movie (and possibly the free food).

Murder Mystery Night (The Venue, DCU; Arts Week)
Our key event for semester one; MSWsoc brought a ‘Murder Mystery’ to the DCU campus. "Murder in Bangkok" was a murder mystery dramatisation combined with a table quiz. Strange, but great fun. Teams watched the action and deduced the killer, with the winning table nabing themselves free tickets for our fabulous weekend away.

:: The Murder Mystery group. (Donal, Adam, Mark, Mags, Medb, Aoife, Gary)

:: Proof that seven bottles of wine causes the best exotic dancing

Guest Speaker: P.I. Cooke (Hub Seminar Room, DCU; December 2004)
We were delighted with the large turnout at our semester one talk, where a private detective told us about his work, detailing several cases and providing a fascinating insight into criminology in Ireland.

:: The audience at the Detective Cooke's talk

:: An attractive ensemble of committee surrounding the detective

Screening of "A Story To Die For" (QG13, DCU; February 2005)
We began semester one with another MSW movie screening. This time our audience enjoyed the free popcorn, chocolate and cola while viewing "A Story To Die For" - the brilliant MSW movie with an important moral lesson at the end about how it's bad to commit murder. Thanks, Jess!

Murder Mystery Weekend Away (Foxford, Co. Mayo; 11 - 13 March 2005)
A weekend away to remember; the MSWsoc brought 27 members to rural Mayo, where we stayed at the well-appointed Foxford Lodge (www.thefoxfordlodge.ie) and enjoyed an amazing few days of partying, bonding, drinking, singing and sleuthing. In the end, it turned out that Mags, the MSW secretary, was the killer and we had an enjoyable time working it out in period Victorian costumes.

:: Most of the group who took part in the Murder Mystery Weekend.

:: Yvonne & Riona; elegant and in costume.

:: Donal & Adam; less elegant but still in costume.

:: Mags loves a man in a hat.

:: Aidan Bell. No wonder he's chairperson.

:: Denise, as the confusingly big-haired Queen Vic.

"A Country Wake" (Seminar Room, DCU; February 2005)
The widely acclaimed murder mystery, written by Adam & Donal and set at an Irish Country Wake. 25 people took on the roles of characters at the wake and the action played out among a real coffin (Thanks to Rom Massey Funeral Home), plates of sandwiches, whiskey and apple tarts. Possibly our best event this year.

:: The committee pose tastefully with the coffin.

:: Part of the crowd, mid-rosary.

:: Suitably erie lighting as Peter and Adam sing mournfully.
