Chairman:
Tom "Underrated by many, Overrated by himself" Darcy
About:
Has progressed from being last years Secretary to rule the roost in KartSoc this year. Has improved dramatically as a karter in the last few years, but verbally has always remained as blunt as the wrong end of a baseball bat :P Well capable of leading the society to bigger and better things.
Track Form:
Surprised many last year with his final placing in the Championship. One of the best performing drivers in the wet last year, he will be expected to be in the top 5 come May but will need some luck to advance on that.
2010/11 Verdict: Top 5 finish (but he probably thinks he can win it outright :P)
Treasurer:
Kevin "KevCon" Conway
About:
KevCon, like Tom, was part of committee last year and has stepped up to the plate to take on the role of Treasurer this year. Can devote plenty of time to the job given he is one of many deciding to take the "scenic-route" through DCU this year, should put in a sterling performance.
Track Form:
Made up the numbers in last years Championship but failed to threaten those higher up. Will find himself in range of an Intervarsity B Team place but could be challenged if a few 1st years show promise.
2010/11 Verdict: An also-ran
Secretary:
Willie "Jump-start" Coyne
About:
Will he ever leave DCU? Currently in his 7th year here, Willie will again be expected to challenge for the title. Commitments near the end of last year meant his great start to the season couldn't be kept up. Final Year (he hopes) may have the same effect but always a challenger for 1st place in any race.
Track Form:
A solid and consistent driver who also has the pace and experience required to win any race no matter what track or condition.
2010/11 Verdict: A Definite Contender
P.R.O:
Stephen "Muscles" Davitt
About:
We picked up this stray on our Cork trip last year and couldn't get rid of him since :P A top notch bloke his great personality means he was a perfect candidate for this years P.R.O. A welcome addition to the team.
Track Form:
Bordering on non-existent. Probably one of the most beatable committee members on the track but early work as P.R.O. shows he is top class at his job and great fun aswell.
2010/11 Verdict: Scoring any Championship points would be an achievement :P
Webmaster:
Jimmy "Pound for Pound" Ryan
About:
Has trimmed down somewhat since his "record-breaking" weigh-in at Teesside in August 2009. Still almost twice the weight of your average karter, relies on experience and supreme racing ability to score some odd championship points. Also created the beauty of a website you see before you :D
Track Form:
Can perform in the wet and on excessively cornery tracks due to his weight providing extra grip. Will need torrential rain at all events (including indoor circuits) if he is to challenge for anything.
2010/11 Verdict: Stranger things have happened, but not often enough for him to be hopeful!
Safety Officer:
Kieran "Hammy/Where's me hair gone?" Ham
About:
The guy with the long hair has disappeared and has been replaced with a shaven headed version. Where previous Safety Officers have been on trips regularly to dish out warnings to reckless drivers, Hammy will have to seriously change his schedule if he is to keep this tradition up, but always a good lad.
Track Form:
Along with the P.R.O. Hammy is one of the more beatable committee members, but has the excuse that he is concentrating on keeping everybody safe, in a safe way.
2010/11 Verdict: Not a hope...seriously...no chance! :P
Training Officer:
Shane "The Hair" McGrath
About:
Appeared at the Santry Endurance last year and surprised many by outdriving then reigning champion Mark Egan for the first quarter of the race. Went on to challenge for the Overall Championship title only to lose out to Egan in the last event in Cork. Has increased the "beauty-rating" of the committee (but only slightly).
Track Form:
Was relatively unknown this time last year but turned in some fantastic performances to become DCU's leading intervarsity driver and runner up in the championship. Will be many peoples favourite to win this years title.
2010/11 Verdict: Definite Contender
Equipment Officer:
Jason "Can I be in 1st Year again" Cross
About:
Last years 1st year champ, Cross has emerged as a fantastic prospect. Has a great interest in motorsport an has fitted seamlessly into the society with a sound personality. Will have a tough task getting the smell of petrol out of the racing suits this year :D
Track Form:
A slow start to last year but his form spiked in the second semester which saw him take the first year championship comfortably. Will be interesting to see if he can translate that form to the overall championship this year.
2010/11 Verdict: Possible Contender
Events Officer:
Mary "Mojo" Ojo
About:
Mojo is part of the engineering crew who took to karting within the last few years. Always on hand as a cheerleader or photographer at intervarsities it was obvious she would look to become part of committee for this year. Becoming the first KartSoc Events Officer, she will add plenty of creativity and fun to the society's social scene.
Track Form:
Will concentrate on the Ladies Championship this year after a very respectable 3rd place last year. With Champion Maria Kehoe's graduation, Mojo could be in line to take home the prize come May and will be one of the favourites to do so.
2010/11 Verdict: Definite Contender for Ladies Championship
