Our second event of the year saw us head to Midland Karting in Edgeworthstown for our first outdoor session of the year. We braved the cold and survived under floodlights in this event and came away with some surprising points scorers on a trip that will help pick the team for the first set of intervarsities which will be held in early November on the same very track.
Donal Rochford returned to KartSoc for his first event of the season to take the final by a comfortable and quite embarassing margin on the other drivers, while setting the fastest lap of the event in the heats to ensure a clean sweep of 17 points and get his championship started with a bang. 1st Year Luke Deane was more than willing to put his faith in the kart and "send it" into corners for overtaking manouvers. He continued his fine start to the season from Kylemore to open up a 12 point gap on Bryan O'Neill in the 1st Year Championship. Could this be a 1st Year Champ in the making?
09/10 Overall Championship Runner-up Shane "The Hair" McGrath could only come in 3rd while all the other expected championship contenders failed to even qualify for the final. Will he regret not making the most of that situation come late April?
In the Ladies Championship, last years 2nd and 3rd place drivers Mary and Rachael picked up where they left off as they took 1st and 2nd of the ladies points in Edgeworthstown and opened up an early lead in the championship.
A few questions remain unanswered after Edgeworthstown however:
Will Luke Deane be the only 1st year to ever win the Overall Championship?
Will Shane McGrath bottle it in the final race of the season again?
Can Mark Egan retain his crown?
Who can challenge Rachael Kellett and Mary Ojo for the Ladies Championship?
Can I ever find the time to upload the pictures and videos to all the races?
Will we ever learn Matthew A's surname?
These questions and more will surely be answered over the course of the year, so get your places booked for any upcoming trips fast as they are sure to sell out quickly!
